BUDDHISM

An evening spent with a Buddhist

I attended a buddhism class last night and the night’s teaching was about LOVE. Mick Marcon, our teacher, is a Buddhist teacher from Mahasiddha Buddhist Centre in Sydney. I have always found Buddhists to be so down to earth and humorous – just look at the Dalia Lama – just look at that smile : ) Living in exile he radiates love and compassion even towards his enemy. It’s a wonderful energy to be enveloped in. Thank you Mick. I was surprised with how many people were there, it was fantastic.

Mick commenced the teaching by talking about fear and why do we fear? Because we feel something or someone is going to harm us basically, this comes about by focussing on cherishing ourselves and being self focussed. If we took away that concern and worry for ourselves and focussed on others and their happiness instead would we live in such fear? Enlightenment, the Buddhists teach, is the attainment of absolute happiness and at the core of that feeling of course is LOVE. Think about it, when you are self-absorbed and only looking at yourself, often it will bring about feelings of worry and concern and judgement on how others treat us. When the focus is on others and wanting the best for our friends, family, loved ones and humanity, that self cherishing becomes non-existent and the fear subsides. I felt it was very appropriate for me to attend this teaching last night. My journey at the moment is focussed on helping others, I am at the beginning stages of setting this up as I have really no clue as to how it will all transpire, I’m trusting the universe will guide me. What I do know is that it is my calling. My heart was filled with gratitude last night being guided to attend this class. Who says I am any more important than anybody else. We are all but grains of sand on a beach, no one is more important than the other, we are equal. Can you imagine what the world would be like if we all cherished each other and wanted the best for each other – there would be no war, there would be no racism, there would be no ethnic cleansing – peace and love would reside. This is my prayer for the world and my fellow man.

Thank you Mick for sharing the message with us. It was received with love and gratitude.

All profits to Yerpa House Tibetan Buddhist monks at Sera Mey Monastery, India

Set in Nepal, this visually stunning and emotionally gripping, Unmistaken Child is a rare insight into the ways in which the deceased Buddhist masters are located and identified.
2001 marked the passing of one of the greatest Tibetan mediators of our time – Master Lama Konchog. His shy and devoted disciple of 21 years, Tenzin Zopa, was unexpectedly appointed by the Dalai Lama to search for the late master’s reincarnation. Assisted by abstract clues from astrology and dream interpretation; Tenzin travelled by helicopter, mule and foot to look for the “unmistaken child”. Already a festival hit, Israeli filmmaker Nati Baratz has crafted a candid portrait that is at once sweeping and intimate.

    Thursday May 27
